 Conversation with myself:
Okay, the Irish were poor. They didn't want the slaves freed, because they'd take all the jobs. What was the word for freeing the slaves? Begins with an A. The Irish were opposed to... ::ponders:: Abstinence? Well, that too... I now remember that the word is "abolition" of slavery. Yeah, back to work.
