The Cult of Lincoln

Ah, I forgot to mention why we got out of rehearsal at 9 last night. We got our costumes! They're not horrible, but they could be better. A lot better. At least I have some red in mine, a necessity for prominent figures onstage. Meanwhile, my friends' costumes were pretty hilarious. Among the gypsies and moors, the gypsy dancers had traditional gypsy belly dancer-type garb. I turned to Emily, a Pratchett fan, and said "Pass me your fez, Corporal Beti."

Too amusing.

I feel so sorry for Emil, who plays Dr. Carrasco. He's absolutely blind in the Knight of the Mirrors outfit. He has to do all this intimidating stuff, but he can't see a thing. And the sounds guys hadn't rigged his mic up properly, so he had to shout his lines inside his very echoey helmet, which made him temporarily deaf. And afterwards, he couldn't get his helmet off, so half the cast had to take turns trying to pry it from his head. Meanwhile, we were all giggling madly. Ricky, Stage Manager Extraordinaire, kept yelling at us to stop laughing. Meanwhile, Mrs. Felice was crying with tears of mirth. "How?" she asked him. ::hugs Emil:: Poor guy. Fortunately, we figured out how the helmet is supposed to be removed (there's a catch), but it doesn't fix the problem of how he sees out of it. Hopefully we'll find some solution in the next two rehearsals! Eep!

I also feel sorry for Lobo, who plays Sancho. His knee-length trouser things are slightly too small for him, so that when he got down on one knee to recite the missive, he first had to resolve uncomfortable bunching. Also, when he leapt into the air on the line "He fights!", it resulted in unfortunate straining. Ouch. Mrs. Felice's "note" for him was "Brian, wear a jo-- nevermind."

Once we sort out costume issues, this show is going to be fabulous. And my mom will take pictures Monday, probably, so I'll post them later that week, as not to spoil the fun for the Lincolnites that are seeing the show live. Hurrah! Wednesday and Friday, kids. ::bounces::
