Oh! I forgot to mention that we finally got our ceiling fixed today! The result is a square piece of plastic that looks like a hatch with no handle. I wanted to name it "Desmond" and write "4 8 15 16 23 42" along the edge, but Ko, having never seen an episode of Lost, vetoed my plan. In the end, we decided we would make a sign for the far wall that says "Escape Hatch" in Navy stencil lettering, pointing up. And I convinced her to let me put the Numbers along the edge, which should entertain all the Lost fans that happen to look up whilst using the toilet. As soon as the mischief is managed, I'll take pictures and post them.
