Sometimes I don't finish a post for whatever reason, but I feel later that the contents should still get out there. So now it's time for a Drafts Roundup!

From 5/9/07:

HOLY COW I WAS RIGHT!

Ellen Greene, the actress that played Audrey in the movie version of Little Shop of Horrors, played Sylar's mom in last night's ep of Heroes. I got such an Audrey vibe off her, but I thought the mother was too old! I WIN AT LIFE!

But this raises a terrifying scenario: Our villain possesses an uncanny resemblance to the beautific young son Audrey dreams of in "Somewhere That's Green." Could Sylar truly be one of these children? Photographic evidence says OF COURSE YES, THIS IS FANDOM. EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE!

My computer is refusing to allow me to take screencaps, so I had to literally take pictures of the screen with my digital camera. XD Without further ado, I present: LITTLE SHOP OF HEROES!

Note the distinct Eye of Jupiter mandala in the background--obviously painted by a young Sylar, having already devoured Laura Roslin's brain.

I think this is why I don't have a boyfriend. :D

Aaaand I'm now writing my Psych paper on Buffy. I believe this nicely rounds out my Fandom in Academia series:

Freshman Year:
  • Visual Communications -- Lord of the Rings. Comparative visual analysis of equivalent scenes in two film versions of "Return of the King."
  • Digital Design Foundations -- Sandman. Reinterpretation of The Endless in my "Sandman Series." In this class, I also did designs inspired by Monty Python's Ministry of Silly Walks and Ender's Game.
Sophomore Year:
  • Copyright and Culture -- Harry Potter. Discussion of legal implications for different types of fan art (focusing on the Harry Potter fandom)
  • 3D Computer Modeling -- The Nightmare Before Christmas and Star Wars. I modeled an environment from TNMBC and an Imperial walker from Star Wars. Also a creature based on the Jabberwock, but I'm not exactly in the Lewis Carroll fandom.
  • Networked Life -- Buffy, sort of. We were supposed to create a network of absolutely anything, so created a network of Buffy guest actors, linked based on if they'd appeared in an episode together. I ended up discussing the arc structure of Buffy a bit in my analysis of the shape of the graph, but it wasn't really about Buffy itself.
Junior Year:
  • Film History -- Star Wars. The impact of the original Star Wars trilogy on the special effects industry.
  • Virtual World Design -- Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean. Created a video game set in an environment based on an image from The Wolves in the Walls.
Senior Year:
  • Feminist Fairy Tales -- Terry Pratchett. Theories of Revision in Tepper’s Beauty and Pratchett’s Witches Abroad. (We read the book in class, mind you!)
  • Film Analysis and Methods -- Firefly/Serenity. Comparison of themes of "otherness" in Serenity and The Searchers
  • Science and Literature -- Doctor Who. Senior Year, Empathy with aliens in War of the Worlds, Ender's Game, and DW 1x06 "Dalek."
  • And now: Psychology of Judgments and Decisions -- Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The indirectness bias in "The Gift" and other episodes.
Why yes, I am awesome. I accept your love and I return it.

My thoughts on a recent development:

Spider-Man + Musical = awesome
Spider-Man + Muscial + Julie Taymor = OMG AWESOME.

That is all.

You remember a month and a half ago, when I called out to the universe for someone to make a "Re: Your Brains" fanvid for Sylar on Heroes? My life is now complete. Linked from Beth!

On the other polar opposite of hilarity, someone posted a clip from Fox's neo-con wannabe Daily Show, The Half-Hour News Hour. Painfully unfunny (the funniest aspect is how canned the laughter sounds, though I admit the "plummeting approval ratings" was amusing) and unabashedly political. There are so many hilarious and fun-poke-worthy things about the left, and they start with Barack Obama? Wow, no agenda here!

Edit: What the hell? This is being aired on FOX NEWS, not regular-Fox. The Daily Show is aired on BASIC CABLE, after a show about genetic freaks that form a squad of superheroes. How on earth can Fox justify airing this on a NEWS channel? Oh, right. Because they're completely soulless, and someone accidentally left a bar magnet next to their moral compass. I don't even know why I was surprised.

So JKR signed a statue of Hermes in her hotel room when she finished Book 7. Ridiculousness aside, Hermes. The name of Percy's owl. This just goes to show how crucial Percy will be to the 7th book. Also that he is in fact secretly the Scarlet Pimpernel.

Due to creative differences, Joss is no longer attached to the Wonder Woman project. Suckage.

At least that gives him more time to work on Goners and Runaways and the Buffy season 8 comic and stuff, but... no, there's no way to positively spin this. It's just lame. After Serenity's lackluster box office performance, see if he ever gets tapped for a major motion picture again. Now how soon can the fandom get a hold of the script?

I cheer myself slightly with the news that a helpline for distressed Potter fans is being set up, because two characters will be killed off in the final installment. Too funny!

Okay, let's answer some comments!

Rebecca: The Dresden Files has billboards? Sweet!

Sara M: Since when is "not knowing each other" a barrier to sharing digital content online? XD

Chungy: Bush/Sloth? This is why I love you.

Keith: Re: "punching people in the face" as a tag, I'll do my best. :D
