Whee! I spent all yesterday at Phauxcon, which was fabulous. It’s so much fun to throw all the barriers down and allow yourself to totally geek out IRL. A lot of the discussions centered on fanfic (as all but two of us are writers) and thematic analysis of the shows, but we also had silly features like Saville Row’s “Intro to Smallville” (for those of us tuning in for James–nary a sentence went by without the word “pretty”), and Mary’s intriguing presentation on “‘Shipping in the Jossverse,” in which she drew surprising parallels between the fandom demographics and their preferred pairings. As a spuffy fan, I feel I’m in good company.

One result of these panels and the conversations between and after was the blessing of more recs than you could shake a stick at. I found that I had a bunch of favourite authors and fics in common with Mary, so we’re going to exchange recs. I also learned that I definitely need to read Jim Butcher’s The Dresden Files. Perhaps after I finish Anansi Boys.

I also shared some of my fanvidding ideas, so I now consider myself obligated to get on the ball and start experimenting. And after Savvy, Z, and the gang saw my Sandman Project, several asked if I’d consider doing title header illustrations for their fanfic, which is something I’d never really thought about before. It’s so much fun to feel in high demand!

I look forward to hanging out with my new friends on LJ! It’s so great to meet like-minded people.
