After six weeks, CollegeBoxes has given up the search for my boxes, and they’re just sending me a check. ARRRRRGH! Kiss that Pterry-autographed Discworld Family Values poster goodbye. I hope he comes through Philly again before I leave. Does anyone know when Making Money is coming out? On the other hand, it’s nice to finally get that sense of closure so I can just re-buy all the stuff they lost, and Ko and I won’t have to deal with no telephones or pot lids or trash cans or shower curtains or measuring cups/spoons or my laundry hamper or my lampshade or my upright pillow etc etc etc.

Fortunately, most of the stuff is very replacable. It’s just a matter of tracking everything down and buying new stuff. I’ll stop by the bookstore and Radio Shack tomorrow when it isn’t raining, and I’ll try to find all the stuff I originally got at Bed Bath and Beyond on their website. What a hassle. The faint silver lining is that I get to pick out new posters! The old list: Serenity, Rent, Star Wars (Darth Vader “Who’s Your Daddy?”), Hero, Lord of the Rings: TTT (with Merry and Pippin), Discworld Family Values, The Incredibles, and Moulin Rouge.

My Amelie and Corpse Bride mini-posters survived, as they were put in one of the boxes that made it, and I’ve already bought the Veronica Mars noir-style poster, and I’m thinking about one of those weird international Serenity posters to replace my dearly departed American one. Oh, eBay, sing to me your sweet siren song!

A Poll:

The Nightmare Before Christmas is the best movie ever.

  • Yes
  • Hell yes

Bwaha, check out Marylin Manson’s cover of “This Is Halloween“. It’s so much fun to see the defining movie of your childhood twisted beyond recognition! I look forward to hearing the other covers on the CD re-release.

Ah, here we go: Sally’s Song (Fiona Apple) and What’s This (Fall Out Boy). I wasn’t able to find She Wants Revenge’s version of “Kidnap the Sandy Claws” or Panic! At the Disco’s verion of “This is Halloween,” but there are snippets here, I’m sure someone will YouTube them when the CD comes out. (Seeing as how I already have the original soundtrack and a couple of the demos, I definitely won’t be buying the rerelease. XD)

Um, here! Have “Kidnap the Sandy Claws” in Japanese!

Because everybody’s doing it:

How many have your name?

Whatev. I’m the first five Google picks up, and therefore the most important. Or most easily stalked. Or most easy to find a gift for at Amazon, apparently. And hey, didn’t I *delete* my Elfwood account a few months ago? Oh well.

Quote of the Day:

–From Wintersmith

It’s so weird how many fannish things I’ve taken in recently reference “Sleeping Beauty.” There’s “Something Borrowed” and “Wintersmith,” and I was tickled that in last week’s episode of Heroes, Cheerleader Girl “woke up” from the seemingly dead after a “splinter” was removed from her body, just like in the old, pre-kiss versions of the story.

Well, not “just like.” Briar Rose hadn’t been autopsied, though she’d certainly been violated, and the “splinter” was in her finger, as opposed to a sapling in her neck, but whatever. The analogy holds. Yes, it does. Shut up.

Ah, my fairy tales class has eaten my brain, but in a good way. :D

P.S. Fishbiscuit Rap! And Tom from the Bob and Tom show pranks a telemarketer.

I am an idiot. Ignore the previous entry. There just isn’t going to be a Friday the 13th in OCTOBER until 2017. Durr.

What the… so today is the last Friday the 13th until 2017. That’s just… how is that even possible? In 132 (or however many) months, not one of them starts on a Sunday? Each with a one-in-seven chance of having a Friday the 13th… that’s just messed up.

Yes, children, Buffy in class! Yesterday we were talking about sound and innovative uses therof. Then Professor Corrigan admitted, “One of my favourite examples is really going to date me… who here is a fan of Buffy?”

I and about five other people raised a hand, but no one took the hint, as we assumed he was going to share said example himself. When he looked about to give up on us, I raised my hand again, and asked “Are you going to talk about Hush or The Body?”. (For the non-Buffy fans in my readership, The Body uses only diegetic sound–no music, no VO, etc., just the sound that naturally exists in the scene. Hush is the episode where everyone’s voice is taken away by demons. It’s all about communication, and it makes very innovative use of silence.)

Professor Corrigan beamed. “Hush, of course! Care to explain?”

I did so, and all was merry.

Then when we were talking about where musicals fit in the whole diegetic/non-diegetic thing, one kid piped up with, “You know, there’s a Buffy musical, too.” Professor Corrigan said yes, he knew, and he (jokingly?) said was toying with the idea of one day teaching a cinema studies class entirely on Buffy. I’d take it! (Actually, I could probably T.A. it.)

And there was much rejoicing. Even though I’ll be long gone if he ever decides to teach it. Ah well. Now go watch the new Torchwood teasers! #1, #2, and #3.

And Renata: Joss was story editor on Roseanne from 1989-1990. The Buffy movie didn’t come around until 1992, and the TV show started in 1997. Everyone has to start somewhere. :D

Last night’s Colbert Report: What organ must I sell to obtain one of those “Mrs. Colbert” sashes? OH MY GOD that episode was on crack! Beautiful, beautiful crack. Also, Jane Fonda/Stephen Colbert OTP. Except NOT. Can I portmanteau the term “NOTP”? Can “portmanteau” be used as a verb? Probably not. Moving on.

Last night’s Veronica Mars: Was it just me, or was the opening credits music a lot less awful than on the season premiere? And hahahaha, silly writers, don’t they know that Kristen Bell + marijuana + a reference to being “starcrossed lovers” has already been done? Aww, Logan and Veronica are just like Romeo and Juliet! They’re happy, young, and hemmoraging blood! Speaking of which, I need to get another of Renata’s delicious brownies. It’s yummy. It’s the greatest brownie known to man! (Also, for female-related issues, Renata’s brownie timing is impeccable. Mmm, chocolate.)

Other randomness:
THIS JUST IN! JON STEWART NOT ACTUALLY RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT! Thanks to Renata for the link. Clearly, some people don’t have enough brains to fill an egg cup. But perhaps I’ve said too much? I must know my limits, after all.

Star’s Blood Used To Make ‘Saw III’ Poster

Steph pointed me to the ComingSoon.net Nightmare Before Christmas Create Your Own Character Fan Art Contest. I am *so* entering! (And I still want to know how they converted existing 2D film to 3D! I watched the trailer, and it’s definitely the same footage…)

Link from Will: October 11th Declared Final Fantasy Day. I have no words.

Oh, win! We briefly talked about the Buffy episode “Hush” in my Film class (instigated by the professor, no less!), I rocked my Math midterm, and I came home to HOBO BROWNIES! Mmm, soft and moist and hobolicious! You can hardly taste the hallucinogenic wood alcohol! The icing H in sunrays are gone, just like the hobos themselves, but their spirit lives on in my tummy.

And now I’m going to watch Heroes. Ko and I caved and watched Studio 60 last night.

Requisite stupid and amusing links:

Google has bought YouTube. And oh my good lord, the YouTube founders are such dorks! No wonder I love their site so much.

Forget Snakes on a Plane! Here’s Shrimp on an Underwater Treadmill.

Bwaha, the Hobo Brownies Renata made for me are featured on John Hodgman’s weblog! And speaking of John Hodgman, here are three new Mac ads.

Also, squeeful: We got our first promo for Torchwood, the Doctor Who spinoff starring Captain Jack! It premieres on BBC3 (and BitTorrent) October 22nd.

And everyone with an internet connection probably knows this by now, but Nathan Fillion is going to be on Lost! And he’ll be playing something slightly more significant than Fishbiscuit #17. Click to find out who! As if there’s anyone that *hasn’t* seen this yet. :D

Also, all hope is not dead for a Serenity sequel. Though rather than shelling out $40 million for two hours of movie, I’d rather see a 20-episode season. Wow, here’s a timely blog entry from Wil Wheaton that encapsulates how I feel on the subject! Now that’s just handy.

Anyway, I’m not watching Heroes and Studio 60 tonight because of my Math midterm tomorrow morning. Please don’t post any spoilers in the comments until I post saying that I’ve seen them, which will most likely be Wednesday night. Danke!
