Gah, opening night. ::is frazzled:: How about another daily run through? Lots of stuff to say.
1st period: Physics. Blah. Boring. My calculator is stupid, so I got completely lost while we were doing some rather scary calculations with some of our lab data. Meh. ::kicks her calculator::
Break: We found that we won a free pizza party from the “Where is —stan” quiz contest. Muaha. It was this series of questions pertaining to the Stan countries; we were one of two advisories that got them all correct. Also, Rachel played the Twix contest thing and won 2,270 Turkish lira. This is roughly equivalent to 1 U.S. dollar. She must wait 6 to 8 weeks for delivery. Lucky girl, that.
2nd period: History. Boring as well. I drew lots of Harry Potter and Discworld characters in the margins. ::nods::
Conference: Chungy and I met with Mr. Dubsky about our research with chaos and tinnitus. We learned all about auditory processing and such. Groovyness. I need to read up on neuroscience. And chaos. And Maple, a computer program we’re utilizing. Gah.
Lunch: I saw Mr. Blaydes and Mrs. Rasmussen in line. I asked Mrs. R if she had posted the callbacks list, and she said she had. After lunch, I checked the board. To my utter joy, I didn’t make callbacks. I’ve been feeling a bit out of character recently, and I chalk it up to a lack of free time. I haven’t been able to CG in ages, and I’m always missing JETS outings because of rehearsals. Happiness! Of course, Marcelina was quick to inform me that because I hadn’t made callbacks, I was most likely going to be put in the chorus. Just great. ::kicks desk::
P.E.: Hellish, as usual. No comment.
Calculus: We did a great deal of studying for the upcoming test. We got problems on mimeographed sheets! ::hums a few bars from “How to Succeed”:: Then, randomly, Jenny started singing the theme from “The Brady Bunch”. We all joined in. Restless, Jenny and Kristen decided to draw all the class members in the Brady Bunch squares, with a diagram from our current problem in the center. We called it “The Dubsky Bunch”. Jenny went to work on filking it and wrote all the words on the board. Then Jennifer took a picture. (Jenny and Jennifer are different people, just so you know). We were entertained.
After school: As today was opening night, our call wasn’t until 5. Of course, I had no ride, so I had to go over at 4. I knitted a while, talking to the other cast members who had arrived early. Then we all had pizza and started to get ready. We were rudely seranaded with awful rap music, as that was our only selection. 6:20 came as a blessing, as we had to turn it off because the audience was beginning to arrive. At about 6:50, I overheard Mrs. Felice talking to other cast members about possibilities for the spring play. It turns out that she hasn’t completely turned down “Mort”! ::grooves:: Just before 7, I went downstairs to watch the performance, as we’re no longer allowed in the light and sound booth. Meh.
The show: The show was great. Before the show and during the intermission, I got to talk to Joe, who was in “How to Succeed”, as well as “Night of the Dunce”, the other Jesuit fall play. Unfortunately, the audience laughed at all the scary and tense parts, which is theatre for you. Meh.
After the show: I congratulated the cast and headed off to the kiosk, where everyone gathered to congratulate the cast as well. I was shocked to see a 7-foot man with bright, orange-red hair. While the face was rather different from the face in my imagination, this man wouldn’t have made a bad Carrot. His shoulders were higher than my head, and I’m nearly 5’9″! After gawping for a few seconds, I met my mom and we were off. In the car, she told me that Mr. Long had called, and that I had actually made callbacks, despite my name not being on the callback sheet. Just great. ::frowls:: Only seniors get lead parts, and I really don’t want to be in the chorus. I just want to have an easy winter.
::loud sigh:: I have no idea what to do. Should I tell them that I don’t want to be in the show? Should I purposefully throw the callback? Should I do the best I can, as I am now? Or should I go all out and watch the movie (my mom rented it) and try my best to memorize the music tonight (my dad got me the CD a few weeks ago)? Gah, that’s life for you. And I have a really evil, scary English test tomorrow. And I have to study my lines obsessively, because I just know the prop boys are going to rig my Bible, where I have hidden a few prompters for the lines in which I have to spout scripture. Ye gods.
To make matters worse, I’m exhausted and I want to go to sleep where I am *now*. I’ve been ready to collapse since 5:15. I’d better not be getting sick or anything. ::frowls::
